You may have heard that last week the hosts of Masters at Work, Ken Dawg and Mike Mission has some words for some of the noisemakers in the city right now basically calling us “suckers” without having the balls to actually call out any names. Well one week later the artists in question dubbed “Team New Money”  stopped by CKUT for this classic audio, and to give them their 2 cents and honestly put Ken Dawg in his place.

Just to prove that we are not being bias, to hear the full rant from Masters at Work from last Saturday night you can check that here. The audio in question takes place in the last 10 minutes of the 2 hours so download to listen and you won’t have to waste your time with the whole 2 hours.

Masters at Work – Saturday August 14

In my opinion our town is too small for all this hate, and just because new comers are trying to put our city on the map it doesn’t mean we don’t have respect for our elders. Point is, Masters at Work has been around for years but all good things come to an end. Move over and let the new generation take the reigns because it’s a new day. Moral of the story is, respect upcoming talent and don’t just say you support your local artists when you actually don’t. It’s about time we are moving in the right direction, with or without our elders. We have tons of talent in Montreal making some of the best music this city has ever seen, and the buzz right now is the highest it has been in years. Just because you missed your chance and have fallen out of the picture, don’t try and hold back the movement. Support your local talent… Masters at Work retirement party coming soon…

Huge respect to Magnum, Dirtwork, I.Blast, Nov, Pay$o, Boy6lue and everyone else who took their time to go to CKUT this evening and make their voices heard. Shouts to Elon Skee for getting this audio cut up and on YouTube with the quickness… you can check part 2 after the jump.

Download or listen to the FULL audio..

  • Wow! Usually, I get so angry because Ken Dawg talks way too much! But that was the first time that I actually didn’t mind listening to Ken Dawg. Hahahaha! It was classic. Bust line: “You’re shooting blanks dawg”. Classic!

  • I don’t usually disagree with Dutch, but this time I will…

This makes our industry look real bad/unpro/immature.

Mike Mission can play/say whatever he wants. This is his JOB! His job is also to put down the best music that he can find anywhere in the world…he is not obligated to play ANYONE from Montreal, if he doesn’t want to.

If he’s not feeling any of your music, then you need to find someone who does, instead of complaining why you get no plays on his show. MTL artists need to stop looking for free passes with “support local talent” picket signs. Make good music that moves people and THEY will gravitate to YOU, regardless.

And if Mike says “I wasn’t talking about you”, then leave it at that and stop trying to strangle the answer from him! It’s none of your business who he was talking about! Even if he was in the wrong, New Money still ended up looking like a bunch of Thugs, as opposed to artists…but if this was the goal, then hats off to them!

DJ’s are also artists. They cannot be told what to play. This defeats the whole purpose of what they are doing.

And do you realize how ridiculous it looks to see 6 20-somethings threatening a 50 year old DJ in his studio?

In NYC, the DJ’s are 10000000000000x much harsher than anything Mike Mission does. I DARE you guys to pull a stunt like that over there!

That being said, the “takeover” was stupid…funny/entertaining…but stupid.
