Big week for us at the Real City Countdown. Not only did Masters at Work apologize last weekend for the fact they have not truly been supporting our local talent, but we have our first Hall of Fame inductee this week with Magnum’s Expos Fitted reaching it’s 10th week on the top of Countdown. Basically if you make 10 weeks at #1, we will retire your song and it will sit with the best of the best in our HoF. Don’t worry this doesn’t mean that the song will not get anymore play, but simply move on to let some other people take the reigns. This week we had special guests Cali aka Merker Madness, Boy 6lue and the homie Rico Blox in studio. We got more in store for you this fall Montreal, stay tuned…

Legendary artist Kurupt will be hitting the stage for the first time in our city at Le Belmont (4483 St-Laurent, Corner Mont-Royal) on Thursday September 9th. Performing alongside the DPG rep are local hitters like Magnum, SRH, Blurum13, JSeven and Murderface, hosted by the homies from Hindu Kush and DJ Budda Blaze. Tickets are on sale now at the regular spots around town for $25 in advance, and should be selling out fast so make sure you got yours before it’s too late cause capacity will be limited. Shouts to Good Friday Entertainment who stays putting on for our city.
You gotta love when a director makes a movie about Montreal, with all Montreal artists. This is going to be big! Bumrush coming to theaters this winter, stay tuned…
Finally Montreal has an anthem to be proud of, Magnum’s new single “Expos Fitted” that has been killing the air waves and been all the hype this summer. Here is the official video from Justin Agustin, which you can see on Much & Vibe as early as next week. How could we forget to shout out all of the supporters who came out and helped with this video, and of course Dirtwork for one of the hottest beats of the year. There will be some remixes dropping soon with just about everyone from Real City, so stay tuned for those as well.
Please people, help your city and support by purchasing the single in iTunes and help put us on the map once and for all. You can do that here, or via your iTunes app.
It has been a very healthy week in Montreal hip hop, thanks to Team New Money. For those who have been hiding under a rock all week, you can get the gist of it over here. I would like to thank all of the supporters who have been down from day 1, and also the haters for giving us all this free promo. Big things are coming in the future and for the first time in as long as I can remember, the scene is starting to look a bit more promising in Real City. Couple new-comers this week but Magnum is still holding down the top spot for the 9th week in a row, which is currently a record for us as I.Blast was #1 for only 7 weeks.

You may have heard that last week the hosts of Masters at Work, Ken Dawg and Mike Mission has some words for some of the noisemakers in the city right now basically calling us “suckers” without having the balls to actually call out any names. Well one week later the artists in question dubbed “Team New Money” stopped by CKUT for this classic audio, and to give them their 2 cents and honestly put Ken Dawg in his place.
Just to prove that we are not being bias, to hear the full rant from Masters at Work from last Saturday night you can check that here. The audio in question takes place in the last 10 minutes of the 2 hours so download to listen and you won’t have to waste your time with the whole 2 hours.
In my opinion our town is too small for all this hate, and just because new comers are trying to put our city on the map it doesn’t mean we don’t have respect for our elders. Point is, Masters at Work has been around for years but all good things come to an end. Move over and let the new generation take the reigns because it’s a new day. Moral of the story is, respect upcoming talent and don’t just say you support your local artists when you actually don’t. It’s about time we are moving in the right direction, with or without our elders. We have tons of talent in Montreal making some of the best music this city has ever seen, and the buzz right now is the highest it has been in years. Just because you missed your chance and have fallen out of the picture, don’t try and hold back the movement. Support your local talent… Masters at Work retirement party coming soon…
Huge respect to Magnum, Dirtwork, I.Blast, Nov, Pay$o, Boy6lue and everyone else who took their time to go to CKUT this evening and make their voices heard. Shouts to Elon Skee for getting this audio cut up and on YouTube with the quickness… you can check part 2 after the jump.
I am going to give myself and Nick Fury a solid pat on the back this week, from the haters. This week which happens to be a milestone for us with our big 30th week, we have added 5 new tracks to the voting. One of them must be defying gravity because it’s featuring someone that many might assume to be banned from the Countdown from past beefs or conversations. Our point is and has always been, as a media we will not discriminate… much to many of your beliefs. If that sounds cryptic to you, point is we will accept and play any music from Montreal that is submitted to us without bias. Therefor do yourself a favor and send your music you want to see on the Countdown to realcitycountdown@gmail.com and chances are next week it will make the cut… if you don’t, stop bitching you haters.
And a special shout out goes to the most hurting radio show in this great city… Masters at Work. Don’t be mad at Mike Mission and Ken Dawg, dinosaurs have feelings too…

Troy Dunnit ft Solitair – Bring It To You (0) 7. Nov – Money To Get (+2) 8. Bad News Brown, Magnum, Millz & I.Blast – Real City All-Stars (0) 9. Spook One ft Uness – We Getting Down (-2) 10. First of all we have to thank all of the haters. Before you start judging what EscapeMTL & Nick Fury are doing for the city, giving countless upcoming artists a chance to shine and all the while getting their music out on the radio and Internet. Instead we have so many people that assume that the votes are fixed, or doctored… or are mad because some artist they believe should be on the countdown is absent, or blackballed. We only put songs on the countdown that are submitted to us, and I can tell you there is no bias as to what we pick cause we want to give everyone a chance. Think what you will or continue to hate, we don’t care. We get over 1000 votes each week on average and if you don’t believe, don’t be a part of it… or submit your music and see if you can make the cut. Honestly people stop hating, or continue giving us free promo.
Onto this week we had special guests Montreality and Mr. Wellz in studio. Montreality is prepping the release of their new compilation dropping this coming Friday the 13th, so stay tuned for that it has a lot of the Countdown songs on it.
